A day on.. not a day off! That's the motto for this MLK holiday. Millions of people across the country are honoring Dr. King through community service.
Hundreds of local volunteers spent the day at Creswell and Stoner Hill Elementary schools. Most of the volunteers were off of work or out of school. They all believe their work is helping fulfill Dr. King's dream.
Students and staff from Centenary College cleaned up classrooms at Creswell. This was all part of Centenary College's Dream Week. Provost Mike Hemphill was happy with the turnout.
"It's also a great lesson for our students. It's a lesson of Dr. King. Every person can serve and doing positive things for the community."
Jourdan Williams wasn't around when King delivered his I Have a Dream speech, but believes King would be happy with today's outpouring of support.
"Everybody from different ages, different colors, different backgrounds and we all came here for the same purpose to serve our community."
Centenary president David Rowe says King started the dream and its time for us to finish what he started.
People also braved the rain to help cleanup Querbes community center. Here's a link to all of Centenary's Dream Week activities http://www.centenary.edu/news/2010/0000148
