Reward offered for TASER attacker

Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a man accused of attacking two Shreveport Police patrol officers.

As previously reported on Arklatexhomepage.com, on January 10, veteran Shreveport Police Lt. Rickey Scroggins initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Fuller Street and Linwood Avenue. Moments later, Officer Felicia Jones arrived on scene to assist Lieutenant Scroggins and, upon further investigation, the officers observed a quantity of narcotics inside the car they had stopped there.

As the officers attempted to arrest an occupant of the vehicle, the man began to resist violently. During this struggle to take the suspect into custody, both officers and the offender fell to the ground, causing Jones to lose physical control of her department-issued TASER. The suspect was able to pick up the TASER and proceeded to attack Scroggins with it. The offender then fled the scene on foot. Scroggins and Jones suffered minor injuries. Responding officers found the TASER a short distance away but were unable to locate the suspect.

Investigators have identified 24 year old Johnny L. Cannon of the 1500 block of Belwood Street in Shreveport as the man who attacked the officers and subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest charging him with one count of aggravated battery. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Johnny Cannon is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
