Investigators believe money was the motive behind the slaying of a mayor in Southwest Arkansas. 50-year old Nena Bolton and Shaunte Smith appeared before a judge in Columbia county Wednesday to answer for their role in the death of McNeil mayor Ralph Ward. Bolton is the grand daughter of the 83 year old mayor. She`s been out of prison for only 6 months. She was convicted of killing her husband Larry Bolton 6 years ago. Investigators working the case believe Smith and Bolton were hoping to collect on a significant inheritance after Ward`s death. "Shuante Smith entered the residence of Mr. Ward through a window. The state alleges that the window was opened by Nena Bolton. Mr. Smith went into the residence while Nena Bolton took Mr. Ward out for ice cream," prosecuting attorney David Butler said. Both Bolton and Smith are charged with capital murder and burglary. The two are scheduled to appear in court again Thursday.
