A single car accident in Webster Parish claimed the life of a Shreveport woman on New Year’s Day.
Shannon L. Parker, 34, walked into the west-bound lanes of Interstate 20 near milepost 42 in Webster Parish and was struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by Jimmy B. Anders, 25, of Minden.
According to investigating troopers, Parker and a passenger, 26-year-old David Stepp, both of Shreveport, were traveling west on I-20 in a 1996 Ford Escort, when the vehicle had a mechanical failure. As a result, the vehicle stopped in the right lane at milepost 42, blocking that lane of travel.
Subsequently, both occupants exited the vehicle.
Thereafter, Stepp pushed the disabled vehicle out of the roadway while, for unknown reasons, Parker walked into the west bound lanes of Interstate 20.
Consequently, Parker was struck by the truck operated by Anders of Minden. Anders was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured. Stepp, who was standing on the shoulder at the time of the crash, also sustained no injuries.
Parker’s injuries were fatal and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner.
Although Anders was not cited with any violations at the scene, routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
