FBI: US Crime Down In 2010, Lowest In The South

Reported incidents of both violent and property crime fell in all four U.S regions, most in the South, least in Northeast. In the Northeast, murders were were up 5.7 percent, forcible rapes were up 1.1 percent, and aggravated assaults were up 2.4 percent, and burglaries up 3.9 percent. The nationwide 10.7 drop in reported robberies was particularly striking because analysts often have theorized a link between that crime and economic conditions.
