Updated: December 2, 2010

(Austin) -- A report out of Austin projects diabetes will quadruple in Texas by 2040.

The Texas Health Institute foresees about eight-million Texans being diagnosed with the potentially deadly disease.

Today, about two-point-million folks in the state are diabetic.

The report claims increasing obesity, an aging population, and other factors will fuel the potential health crisis.

There is no cure for diabetes but treatment can reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, blindness and amputations.
