Local woman arrested, despite wearing panty hose on her face

A local woman who allegedly robbed a southeast Shreveport convenience store wearing panty hose on her head Friday has been arrested.

Twenty-nine year old Shawna Bates was taken into custody without incident at her residence in the 7800 block of Youree Drive.  She subsequently was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of simple robbery.  Bates’ arrest came after SPD investigators developed a suspect Saturday.

Police patrol officers responded to a reported robbery at the Chevron station located in the 7900 block of Youree Drive around 6 p.m. Friday.   Upon arrival there, officers learned that a white female suspect wearing the old panty hose disguise entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. While the suspect did not produce a weapon, she led the clerk to believe she was armed. She fled the scene on foot, with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured during the robbery.

The responding officers immediately began searching for the suspect. A Shreveport Police K-9 Unit led them to a nearby parking lot where they found the makeshift panty hose hat used as a mask, along with money believed to have been taken during the robbery.

This evidence was recovered and robbery detectives were summoned to the scene.
