Getting behind the wheel of a brand new BMW is a thrill for sports car enthusiest, Richard Roys. But he has a smile on his face because he knows his test drive will help fight breast cancer. It’s a disease that hits home for Roys.
"Personally I've been affected in my own family, so it means as awful lot," said Roys.
He's just one of more than 100 people who got behind the wheel and behind the cause at Orr BMW's Ultimate Drive for the Cure.
"It's a great event. It benefits breast cancer research and it gets a lot of people to come out and drive great cars," said Justin Donaldson, a representative for BMW Ultimate Drive.
Breast cancer survivor, Linda Pedro is a big supporter of the Ultimate Drive and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Anything anyone does for the breast cancer foundation is important to me," she said.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women in the United States. Experts and survivors agree, early detection saves lives.
"Everybody be sure to get your mamogram. That is so important, so important. The lady who did mine, she just kept on and kept on. She saw something, but she couldn't really pinpoint it and she kept on until she got a good picture. That's why I'm standing here today," said Garland Moellencamp, a five year breast cancer survivor.
For every mile driven during the Ultimate Drive, BMW donates one dollar to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Shreveport event raised more than $4,500.00.
