ULM SNEAKS BY CENTENARY, 74-71

SHREVEPORT, La. -- ULM came away with a 74-71 win over Centenary at the Gold Dome on Thursday night. The Warhawks improve to 7-1 on the season. ULM held an 11-point lead, 70-59, with 5:36 left in the game, but Centenary would not give up as they went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead. Ladies freshman Monique Jefferson cut the ULM lead to 71-69 at 2:45 with a three-pointer. ?Centenary shot the ball very well,? said ULM head coach Mona Martin. ?I was disappointed with our defensive intensity and they came out firing.? ULM took a 43-36 lead into halftime, after holding the Ladies to four points in the last 7:22 of the first half. Centenary took a 32-28 lead on a three-pointer by Jasmine Bothwell at the 7:22 mark. The Warhawks buckled down on defense and went on an 11-0 run to get back in the lead, 39-32 with 2:23 left in the half. LaJeanna Howard led the Warhawks with 15 points, while Shannon Lloyd recorded a career-high 11 points. Lloyd also had a team-leading eight rebounds. Freshman Jesse Carrier made her first collegiate start this season. Senior Melanie Williams did not dress out for tonight?s game. Williams had an MRI on her left knee on Thursday morning and is being evaluated by the ULM athletic training staff and physicians. Redshirt freshman Courtney Carter is seeing limited action as the staff evaluates her right knee. The Warhawks continue action on Saturday, Dec. 2 against former Southland Conference foe Northwestern State. Tip-off at Fant-Ewing Coliseum is set for 7 p.m., following the men?s game against William Carey at 4:30 p.m.
