NATCHITOCHES - Senior guard Luke Rogers scored 30 points and junior forward Colby Bargeman added 27 Thursday night as two-time defending Southland Conference basketball champion Northwestern State held off Division II Harding 103-100 in a preseason exhibition mens basketball game. The Demons shot 59 percent from the field after halftime and drained 84 percent (26-31) of their free throws to overcome a 47-41 halftime deficit. Matt Hall scored a game-high 32 oints and had 11 rebounds for Harding. Junior college transfer Trey Gilder scored 18 for the Demons, who got 11 from senior guard Kennan Jones. The Demons, who won a first-round NCAA Tournament game over Iowa in a 26-8 season last year, are replacing four graduated starters. They open the regular season next Friday night at home against another 2006 NCAA Tournament entry, Utah State.
