NATCHITOCHES, La. - The ULM soccer team`s attempt to halt Northwestern
State`s 12-game home winning streak came up just seven seconds short. The
Warhawks dropped a 2-1 decision at the Demon Soccer Complex on Wednesday
night in Natchitoches, La.
"It was a very evenly matched game that we can take a lot of positives
from," said ULM head coach Stacy Lamb. "We were able to fix our problems
from this past Sunday and played much better."
Following a scoreless first half, NSU netted the game`s first goal with a
second-chance shot following a save by freshman goalkeeper Mallory George`s
deflection of a corner kick at the 56 minute mark.
Three minutes later freshman Britnie Markham tallied the first goal of her
career off an assist from junior Allison Matson. The score was the first of
the season for the Warhawks (0-2) and tied the score at 1-1.
The Lady Demons (1-1) would push across the game`s final score on a second
attempt after another George save with seven seconds remaining on the game
clock.
"This was a great game against one of our biggest in-state rivals," said ULM
head coach Stacy Lamb. "We are very pleased with today`s effort. It is just
sad that we made two mistakes."
ULM returns to the ULM Soccer Complex to face former Southland Conference
opponent Nicholls State at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3.
