MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - History was made at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Del., on Tuesday night in the series opener between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Wilmington Blue Rocks. Pelicans second baseman J.C. Holt led the game off with a single into centerfield to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, giving the former LSU Tiger the longest hitting streak in the history of the Pelicans franchise. The Pelicans are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Holt surpassed current Braves infielder Martin Prado, who hit safely in 18 consecutive games with the Pelicans in 2005. During the streak Holt has hit .385 (30-for-78). Since July 1, he is batting .310 (62-for-200), and he has hit safely in 40 of his last 46 games. The longest streak of the 2006 season in the Carolina League belongs to Kinstons Brian Barton who hit safely in 22 consecutive games from April 18 through May 14. Holt, a native of Sieper, La., helped lead LSU to College World Series appearances in 2003 and 2004 as the Tigers starting centerfielder. He earned first-team all-SEC honors in 2004, and he also received third-team all-America recognition from Baseball America magazine. Holt was the Braves third-round selection in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft.
