Horwedel Named to Lou Groza Watch List

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech place kicker Danny Horwedel has been named to the 2006 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Preseason Watch List. The award has been awarded to the nation`s top kicker each of the past 14 years. Horwedel was named to the preseason watch list last year as well. In 2005 he connected on 34-of-38 extra points and 18-of-26 field goals and was named WAC Special Teams Player of the Week once. Horwedel scored a career-high 16 points against North Texas last season hitting all four of his field goal attempts and four extra points. He led the conference in scoring and field goals per game and was third in field goal percentage. Each season 30 kickers are placed on the watch list before a panel of 300 votes on the winner. The field will be narrowed to 20 semifinalists November 7 before three finalists are named two weeks later.
