Christus Shumpert Announce Changes

By: Lynn Vance
Updated: August 25, 2010
CHRISTUS Schumpert Health System will implement some changes at both the Schumpert St. Mary and Schumpert Highland campuses in the near future as it implements a new strategic direction for the region.  Services at the St. Mary campus will be focused around CHRISTUS Sutton Children’s Hospital, women’s services and comprehensive cancer care.  At the same time services at the Highland campus will be expanded to provide more capacity and technology for adult medicine and surgical services in a growing area of the city.
“This strategy will allow us to concentrate on those services at which we excel,” said William Lunn, M.D., Regional Chief Operating Officer.  “Sutton Children’s and the CHRISTUS Schumpert Cancer Center already enjoy regional reputations for high quality personalized care and we believe the St. Mary campus will become a destination for these centers of excellence while the Highland campus will be better positioned to meet their growing patient demand in that area of the city,” Lunn continued.
Emergency departments will continue to operate at both campuses; the Schumpert St. Mary campus will continue to operate the Sutton Children’s emergency department and an adult emergency department with a special focus on women’s services and oncology cancer care.
These changes will be implemented within the next several months.
