The New Orleans Saints have signed FB Mike Karney to a four-year extension, it was announced today by Executive Vice-President/General Manager Mickey Loomis, keeping him under contract for the next five seasons. The extension picks up next year when the final year of his existing deal expires. Karney was drafted by the Saints in the 5th round (156th overall) of the 2004 NFL draft out of Arizona State. Entering his third season, he has appeared in all 32 games, starting 22 contests in the Saints backfield. In his first two NFL seasons, Karney has proven to be a solid lead blocker and able receiver out of the backfield. In his rookie season of 2004, Karney helped open holes for RB Deuce McAllister to reach his third consecutive 1,000 yard season.
