INDIANAPOLIS - Northwestern State freshman Randy Fauntleroy took third in the javelin Wednesday at the Finish Line USA Junior Track and Field Championships, earning him USA Junior All-America honors. Fauntleroy threw 203-6. North Carolinas Adam Montegue won with a 222-8 mark while Christopher Hill, competing unattached, was second at 205-4. Fauntleroy, from Covington, earned a bronze medal along with the All-America honors. "He came in seeded sixth and finished third without having one of his best days, so were very pleased about it," said NSU assistant coach Mike Heimerman. "He got excited and was trying too hard, which made it more difficult for him from a technique standpoint. But this is a great accomplishment for him and a super way to wrap up his freshman season. More than 600 athletes ages 14-19 are competing in the junior nationals, held concurrently with the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships. In the senior event, two Northwestern State competitors, NCAA All-Americans Samantha Ford (javelin) and Ravyn Hayward (100 meter dash), compete Thursday.
