Silent Auction To Benefit Independence Bowl Foundation

Shreveport, La. - The 2006 Independence Bowl Hall of Honor event will be held on Monday, June 19 and will feature a silent auction with several autographed items. The auction will be held in conjunction with the induction reception, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the club level of Independence Stadium. There will be a social hour from 6-7 p.m. which will be followed by the induction portion of the event. Among the most notable items to be included in the auction are a football autographed by former NFL quarterback Jim Kelly, a golf ball signed by PGA star John Daly, a football signed by 2006 Hall of Honor inductee Deuce McAllister, and boxing gloves signed by former heavyweight boxing champion Larry Holmes. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and wide receiver Joe Horn also donated signed footballs. Another item of interest is a jersey signed by former Missouri QB Brad Smith, the 2005 Independence Bowl Offensive MVP. Several SEC and Big 12 schools donated items for the auction. Alabama donated a football signed by head coach Mike Shula, Auburn sent a hat signed by head coach Tommy Tuberville, and Florida contributed a picture and visor autographed by head coach Urban Meyer. Georgia sent pictures signed by head football coach Mark Richt and head basketball coach Dennis Felton. Tennessee sent a football signed by its head football coach Phil Fulmer. The David Toms Foundation donated four items to the auction from Bossier City native and PGA star David Toms. Toms sent two signed flags, one each from the Sony Open and accenture Match Play Championship, an autographed Cleveland golf hat, and a signed photograph. Tickets for the event are only $15 and will be available at the door Monday evening. The day begins with the Hall of Honor Golf Classic at Southern Trace Country Club at 9 a.m. The 2006 Hall of Honor inductees are Gerry DiNardo, Alan Faneca, and Deuce McAllister.
