Senior pitcher Kristin Rupp (0-1) picked up the loss for the Techsters (7-13) after allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out three in 3.1 innings of action.
"Kristin did a good job for us on the mound," said Louisiana Tech head coach Sarah Dawson. "And although they may not have shown up as errors, we made some physical and mental mistakes behind her."
Northwestern State (12-17) jumped out to an early lead in the first when Margaret Patterson doubled to left field and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Michelle Castellano. An RBI single by Amanda Glenn put the Lady Demons up 2-0 at the end of the first.
Louisiana Tech answered back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Ashley Cameron that scored Danielle Sheridan.
Northwestern State upped the advantage to 5-1 by scoring three runs on three hits and one Tech error in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lady Techsters struck for a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Krissi Oliver, which scored Carly White, who led the inning off with a double to right center.
The Demons added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to make the score 9-2.
Tech scored three runs on only one hit and two Northwestern State errors in the bottom of the seventh.
Louisiana Tech was led offensively by Emma Barnes, Sheridan, Rochelle Sandberg, Regan Clark, Cameron, White and Oliver with one hit each.
"It was one of those days when the number of hits we had and the runs we scored didn`t reflect how well we actually hit the ball," Dawson said. "But we also need to learn to be more consistent at the plate. We seem to get a few hits here and there, but we need to group them better than we did today."
The Lady Demons were led by Glenn (4 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Brittany Card (2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI).
Castellano (3-0) picked up the win, holding Tech to seven hits in the contest.
"We don`t want our wins and loses to be our scale for if we`re becoming a better team or not," Dawson said. "Our number one challenge is still to get them to compete consistently, and we`re seeing glimpses of that."
Tech will return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a home double header series against Southeastern Louisiana.
