breaking news
It`s the first year since Katrina that Shreveport has taken count of all of its homeless and yesterday a group effort was made to seek them out. What many census takers found was an abundance of homeless men and women who said they preferred to live on the streets than in a house. Melodie Allen, of the Mother Stewart House on Sprague Street says many of the homeless are hesitant to move into a house like theirs because some feel they will lose certain freedoms. Allen also says that hopefully Wednesdays census will help homes like the Mother Stewart House receive more funding for programs.
