Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover, Department of Operational Services Director, Mike Strong and representatives of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will host an important Community Meeting Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 5315 South Lakeshore Drive. In an effort to inform, educate, and hear from residents who live along Cross Lake, the public meeting will outline Shreveports plan, as well as the States proposal to battle Salvinia, the floating invader from South America that is currently clogging Louisianas waterways and threatening fish at a faster rate that the state can fight it. Salvinia was first found in Toledo Bend and has spread aggressively, to surrounding lakes and rivers and currently threatens Shreveports water supply. Because Salvinia is an ongoing threat to the waters of Louisiana and to Cross Lake in particular, it is most important that we keep the public and Cross Lake residents informed and involved in a progressive plan of attack to stop or curb its rapid and now threatening growth, says Mayor Glover. DOS Director Mike Strong says residents will have the opportunity to view maps, charts, and power point presentations, as well as ask questions, offer suggestions and visit with city and state representatives one-on-one.
