Texas Soldier Killed In IED Explosion

A North Texas Soldier died in Iraq on New Year`s Eve. Fort Hood Officials confirm his identity. He is 20-year-old Specialist Richard Anthony Smith of Grand Prairie. Officials say he died after an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on combat patrol. Smith joined the military in March 2005 as a food service specialist. He was deployed to Iraq in October 2006.
