The Louisiana Character and Leadership Development Symposium is a public educational and inspirational conference meant to illustrate and promote character and leadership. The day is packed with speakers and panel discussions illustrating real-world elements and examples of character and leadership. The list of speakers at LCLDS encompasses a diverse group of veteran leaders from the military, government, community development, education, business, and religious faiths. Here is just a sample:
Commander Scott Waddle, U.S.N. (Ret.)- Commanding officer of the nuclear submarine USS Greenville when it collided with a Japanese fishing vessel off Pearl Harbor in 2001 killing nine aboard the fishing vessel. Commander Waddle’s presentation, Failure is not Final, is an incredible story of responsibility, honesty, honor, and sacrifice in the aftermath of the tragic ordeal.
Major General Floyd Carpenter, U.S.A.F.– Commander, 8th Air Force, Barksdale AFB, Joint Functional Component Commander for Global Strike, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB. A leader of leaders.Colonel Kelly Murray, M.D., U.S. Army– Commander, Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk. Her leadership awards include: Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device, Bronze Star (2 OLC), Purple Heart, and many more.

A Panel titled “Character, Leadership and Women” featuring Louisiana State Senator Sherry Cheek; Gwen Campbell, Executive Assistant Community Relations, City of Shreveport; Markey Pierre, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board, Shreveport Chamber of Commerce; and Louisiana State Senator Lydia Jackson.
A Panel titled “Character, Leadership and Religion” featuring Bart Riggins, Pastor, Light of the World Community Church of God; Michael Duca, Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Shreveport; Foster Kawaler, Rabbi, Congregation Agudath Achim; and Dr. Pat Day, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church.

5 p.m. to 9 p.m.Golden Corral's 9th annual Military Appreciation Monday dinner will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 5 to 9 pm in all Golden Corral restaurants nationwide. The free dinner meal is a special "thank you tribute" to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. If you are a veteran, retired, currently serving, in the National Guard or Reserves, you are invited to join us for Golden Corral's Military Appreciation Monday dinner.
To date, Golden Corral restaurants have provided over 2.2 million free meals and contributed over $3.3 million to the Disabled American Veterans organization..
