Legal Changes

It’s easy to become confused about all the post-wedding legal changes which need to be made.  Here are a few pointers concerning that issue:

1. Drivers License – you will simply need to take your marriage license or certificate to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
2. Bank Accounts – take your new drivers license and marriage license to your bank and be sure bank personnel changes your name on all their records.
3. Social Security – your marriage license is all you need and it is so important that this be done correctly and quickly.
4. Medical Records – your new name and your new postal address should be made a part of your medical records.
5. Bills – people from whom you receive regular billing will need your new name and address entered into their system.

A final tip is to get a certified copy of your marriage license or certificate for yourself.  You never know when you might need it.
