  • New Technology Bridges the Gap Between Home and School

A new technology that originated in California has made its way to the Arklatex. School loop is a "communications portal" that allows parents and students to see grades, homework, future assignments, school news and much more on their computer screens. Bossier Parish implemented the system this school year.

"This was just an open window to see assignments, grades," said Bill Allred, Bossier Parish Schools Director of Technology. "[It's a way to] communicate with the parent in an easier way."

Parents and teachers alike are singing its praises.

"Often time children say they don't have homework and it just gives you that extra advantage to be able to go to them and make sure their assignments are finished so they can do the best they can," said Sassy Williams, Mother of two and Teacher at Parkway High School.

    Initially students were apprehensive.

"When I first saw School Loop I thought it might not be a good idea for my parents to see my grades everyday," said Andleu Salcedo, Parkway High School Senior.

However after a week of school many have changed their minds.

"I'm just really excited about it," said Jessie Prudhone, Parkway High School Junior. "I think I'm overly excited about it actually."

If you don't have a computer those in charge say not to worry. In the next couple of weeks a phone system will be set up to automatically call parents who have not registered for School Loop. The system will list your child's assignments.
