Reported by: Erica Bennett Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @06:43pm CST "I came to and the only memory I have was being crushed into a little ball inside my car," Williams said.
October 29, 2009 was the day 57-year old Michael Williams' life was changed forever. While driving home from work, a tornado ripped a church steeple from its base...on to his car. "One image that is burned into my memory is the image of all the fire department. Men and women who cut me out of that vehichle. It's the one image I do remember and I will hold onto it for the rest of my life," he continued. Despite the severity of the incident, Williams managed to survive..with a fractured cervical vertebrae, sternum, and partially amputated finger. "He has many injuries, but fortunately no internal bleeding or anything like that," wife Judy Williams said. The steeple is 100 feet tall and weighs 24 thousand pounds. Family and friends, doctors, even williams himself say it's a miracle he was able to survive the blow. "I'm just amazed. I looked at the pictures of the car. The fact that he's even still here and he has such a good spirit," Dr. Anne Hollister said. Williams says his main focus is getting well and appreciating life from here on out. "I was put here for a reason. I don't know what it is, but I'll let you know when i find it," he said with a smile. Until then, he's just glad to be proof that miracles really do happen. Doctors tell us Williams will have to be in the hospital for another couple of days before he can go home. Once he does, we know he plans on returning to his graphic design work and living nothing short of a full life. |
