Reported by: Erica Bennett Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @06:56pm CST Army trucks, mobile buses and law enforcement agencies are the latest defenses in the fight against flooding in south Bossier Parish.
Scott Harper decided not to wait for help and took matters into his own hands. The Red Chute Bayou behind their home is steadily rising...with only a sandbagged levee keeping the waters at bay. "It was talking about flooding everywhere and so we started going in and puting everything on blocks. We didn't want to take a chance from '91 in flooding, so we went all out," he said. The last time the area was washed out was in 1991. Harper hopes the current efforts will make things smoother this time around. "At that time we didn't have any sandbags around the house. So this time, we actually prepared and got all these sandbags and got everything on blocks. We didn't take any chances this time," he continued. Water may be rising fast, but residents in the Shadow Ridge subdivision say they're gonna work together to make sure water doesn't get into their homes. Bruce Waggoner is checking the neighborhood for high waters. He says the neighbors will pull together as soon as there's an immediate threat. "I'm just making sure it's not coming up and if it does, we'll do what we need to do to protect those homes down there close to flooding," he said. Officials want people in this area to think of 1991. If their homes flooded then, then there's a big chance they could flood now. So, shat's whey they're calling homes and strongly suggesting people get out safely while they still can. |
