Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 @06:48pm CST Stockwell Elementary School in Bossier Parish will remain closed Monday. Stockwell is the only school that could be effected with flooding if there were to be a breach in the levee. The Bossier Parish School Board says they will not take a chance and place students and employees in that school Monday and then have to evacuate them if conditions were to worsen.
Stockwell Elementary School is being utilized as a Command Center for the Bossier City Police and National Guard and a storage area for equipment and emergency vehicles. Students who attend Stockwell Elementary School will be given excused absences due to the closure. Employees that work at Stockwell Elementary will not have the day counted against them. All other schools in Bossier Parish will open on time and classes will resume as normal. Rodes, Platt, Princeton, W T Lewis, Haughton Middle, Haughton High, and Airline High School will be open and buses will run to pick up these students on all streets and roads that are not flooded. However, if students in these schools are absent due to the flooding, they will also receive an excused absence with proper documentation. |
