  • Evacuation Advisory Issued for Neighborhoods Near Red C...

    Saturday, Oct 31, 2009 @06:59pm CDT

Here is the latest from Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker:

Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker, Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen and Bossier Parish Administrator Bill Altimus have issued an evacuation advisory for residents living in the vicinity of Red Chute Bayou and Flat River in northeast Bossier City. This area includes the Victorian Pointe, Stonebridge, Stockwell, Brookhaven, Richmond Cove, Carriage Oaks, Carriage Oaks Crossing and Lafayette Park subdivisions.

There is now an immediate threat of a levee breech on Red Chute Bayou that can result in major flooding in these subdivisions. Residents in these areas are advised and it is strongly recommended to leave their homes as soon as possible and move to higher ground.  Residents were advised of the evacuation advisory at approximately 6pm Saturday night through the First Call automated telephone notification system.

Platt Elementary School on Hwy. 80 in Haughton and the old Parkway High School on Panther Drive in Bossier City are both serving as Red Cross shelters and are available to affected residents who will need a place to stay.

If you have special needs, such as a physically disability, and need assistance leaving your home call the Bossier Office of Emergency Preparedness at 425-5351 and that assistance will be provided.

Bossier Parish officials and the Bossier EOP also advise residents in south Bossier Parish who have experienced flooding in the past to make preparations for high water as well.

Sandbags for Bossier residents are still being provided at four locations:
 Bossier City Public Service Complex, 3223 Old Shed Road (just east of Tinsley Park)
 Benton Public Works Building, 410 Mayfield Street in Benton
 Haughton fire station on East McKinley Street
 Highway 157 and Sligo in Sligo, LA

Dogwood Trail at Red Chute Bayou has been closed to traffic as a result of rising water. Motorists needing to access the Dogwood subdivision are advised to do so via Bellvue Road.
