WHAT DOES A WEDDING PLANNER DO? EVERYTHING! The wedding planner handles virtually all the details leading up to the wedding, the ceremony and the reception. Why hire a Wedding Planner? Because it takes all the stress off the shoulders of the bride and groom and their families. A wedding planner will, among a host of other things, work on an established time line, assist the couple in establishing a realistic budget; negotiate prices with vendors and service providers; supervise decorations, select flowers and wedding cakes and a million and one other things that probably would not even occur to the couple. Choosing a Wedding Planner Probably the first consideration is cost; and there are several ways that planners are paid. Some offer their services “free” because they are paid by vendors and service providers with “kick backs”. Others charge a percentage, usually 15 to 20 percent of the total wedding budget. Still others will quote a flat fee based on the size of the wedding. It is suggested that those planning a truly elaborate wedding should go the percentage route while smaller weddings would benefit from the flat fee approach. A final word of advice when choosing a Wedding Planner is to be SURE you ask for references and be just as sure to check those references. |
