Reported by: Shelli Briery Tuesday, Feb 10, 2009 @02:06pm CST Shreveport is sometimes called "Hollywood South".
And work for thousands in the Ark-La-Tex has landed them a place on the Silver Scene. "I have worked as long as 17 hours on one shoot." Gary Calligas is one of hundreds of seniors in the area, who can honestly say he has had his 15 minutes of fame on the silver screen. He has done paid extra work in at least seven films. "It is amazing, some of the older people i see on the sets," said Extra, Andy Sibley. Sibley has been on his share of movie sets. "You get to see famous people walking around." After his interest was peaked when Hollywood moved in, he found a new hobby. "It is not something I am trying to get famous or anything with." Ryan Glorioso is credited for a major portion of casting done in the Ark-La-Tex. Though his database already includes 26,000 people. He's always hunting for a fresh face. "Most movies want real people...We need old people, chinese people, black people, white people, hispanic," said Glorioso. He says when a production moves in there plenty of work to go around. "If you have the day off or don't have a job at all it, is a good way to make some extra cash." So seniors, if need some extra cash to offset an expense, give acting a try. You could be a natural. "It is a good way for seniors and others to get some extra money, network and meet other people," said Calligas. If you are interested in doing some extra work...Log onto gloriosocasting.com.
