Reported by: Amber Miller Wednesday, Oct 22, 2008 @07:12pm CDT A voter registration group is being investigated because of suspected voter fraud. Senator David Vitter says Voting is Power or VIP submitted 86,000 new voter applications to Caddo Parish. However, 65 percent were questionable.
"They wrote names out of the phonebook, submitted cards with addresses that didn't exist, voter signatures that didn't match at all with voter signatures on records," said Vitter. Applications with this type of information have been rejected. However, checks and balances aren't just used during the registration process. "If they do not have a photo ID they have to fill out a voter identification affidavit," said Cindy Johnston, Bossier Parish Clerk of Courts. Johnston says the voter must also answer a series of questions that only he or she will know how to answer. "I think we have a very good system that we will catch this voter fraud," said Johnston. Vitter says the investigation is ongoing. |
