Reported by: Shelli Briery Tuesday, Oct 14, 2008 @02:08pm CDT The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana feeds nearly 2,000 seniors a month through the Box program. The boxes are now being distributed in a more convenient way. At Noel Neighborhood Ministries, volunteers spend hours each day filling bags with food for the needy. The pantry will soon be helping with another project. "We will be enrolling or having the seniors come over here just as they would over at the food bank," said Director, Susan Foster. Each month the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana provides boxed goods for 2,000 seniors in a seven parish region. "The senior box is about a 50 pound box of food," said Martha Marak. Seniors used to pick boxes up at the Food Bank. Now they won't have to travel out of their neighborhoods. Marak says the change is all about convenience. "We think it helps them and it helps up because we can reach more people by getting it closer to home." Noel Ministries is one of 30 sites to start distributing the boxes. Volunteers say they are glad to help. "Starting Wednesday, when the senior boxes come over here from the food bank then we will start given out the senior boxes," said Foster. If you receive a food box and want to know where to pick it up, call the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.
