Reported by: Shelli Briery Monday, Sep 29, 2008 @12:53pm CDT Playing Bean Bag Baseball is something seniors enjoy doing
and staying active for this group means staying healthy. And guarding against the Flu, like 65-year-old, Charlotte Bryan. "I get one every year," said Bryan. "Most doctors offices will start giving out Flu Shots in October," said Dr. Kevin McGann. McGann says now is the time to get vaccinated. "Last year was the worst Flu season we have seen in a long, long time." Each year nearly 40,000 people die from the Flu. Those most at risk of complications with the virus are young children, people with certain health conditions and older adults. "They can get a lot sicker, there is higher mortality rates, they are more likely to die," said McGann Bryan says she's already made a doctor's appointment for next week to get vaccinated. "I had one episode where I was in the hospital, the emergency room... from not getting a Flu shot and ever since then I make sure I always get my Flu shot." For patients not on Medicare, a Flu shot usually cost between 20 to 30 dollars but that's money well spent when your health and activity is on the line. Doctor McGann says only those allergic to eggs shouldn't get vaccinated. A flu vaccination clinic is set for Wednesday at both Willis Knighton Quick Care locations from 7am to 7pm. The cost for a shot is $25.00. On Friday, you can get a shot at Summerfield Estates from 2 to 4pm. The cost is $30.00. |
