For some, breast cancer is a death sentence. "I planned my funeral. I planned everything out, songs and all, but one day, the thought occurred to me not to die but live," says breast cancer survivor Reba Grider.

Mastectomies are one of many common treatments. "The doctor told me that I had the choice of either a lumpectomy or a mastectomy and I elected for the mastectomy because I thougth it was safer," says fellow survivor Paula Nehrkorn.

Some women find it difficult to deal with not being "whole." That's where Debra Reid comes in. She runs a specialty store tailor made for breast cancer survivors, since she's one herself. But she provides more than just undergarments and wigs. "I love this. It's one on one, and these ladies come in and I might fit them, and if I don't have anyone else, we might sit here an hour and just talk. Some of them, they need that as much or more than they need the product,"says Reid.

Reid's first hand knowledge has helped women go out and help educate others. "I think they have to be educated for one thing, as far as, you know, that it's not a death sentence any more," says Nehrkorn.

Most insurance companies and even Medicare will pay for the mastectomy bras and wigs for breast cancer survivors. Reid's shop is located at 103 N.E. Front Street in New Boston, Texas. For more information, call 903-628-1360.
