Reported by: Amber Miller Tuesday, Sep 9, 2008 @05:19pm CDT The new Hummer H3T production gives new hope to people who work at the plant. Anthony Thomas, General Motors Support person, says, "It can't hurt. It can help. Once it takes off it should be really, really good for the plant."
That is good news for a plant that's set to lay off nearly 800 workers by the end of the month. In fact, the local United Auto Workers president says he hopes the new product will mean laid off workers will have an opportunity to return to the plant sooner rather than later, "We're hoping that the truck sells very well and of course we're optimistic that we can get everybody back to work one day." If the truck doesn't sell as well as some hope a Hummer spokesperson says a plan is already in place. Nick Richards, Hummer Communications Manager, says, "We can adjust the production level between the H3 and the H3T according to demand." And Richards says demands are high, "You're still on target to sell over a million trucks this year as an industry. Even a small percentage of those would be very successful." The Hummer H3T is set to debut in a couple of weeks. Its starting price is $31,000. |
