The Aging and Disability Information Center is located in the Caddo Council On Aging. "I didn't understand what I was supposed to do and when I was supposed to do it and how I was supposed to do it." Alice Lemons is one of thousands to get lost in maze created by state and federal government agencies when finding the proper long term care for seniors. After her mother suffered a stroke, finding service for in-home care became a nightmare. "The terminology, I didn't understand, I wanted personal care, day care, your are eligible for the ADA wavier, I didn't know what those things meant and being desperate for help I chose to put her down for every thing," said Lemons. Inside the Caddo Council On Aging help is available for those like Lemons through the Aging and Disability Resource Center. Case workers make it easier for clients to learn what services are available and how to increase cost effectiveness. "Meals On Wheels, direct services or maybe just finding out about the different waivers that the state has.We are here to answer all their questions on Medicare Part D, Prescription Assistance," said Mary Alice Rountree. Lemons says her frustrations have prompted her to help others. When you call the center, she'll be there to answer. "When you need help, you take what you can get," said Lemons. "We are the information center, call us, no question is to small for us," said Rountree. For more information stop by the Caddo Council On Aging or call 632-5900. |
