 Heidi York anchors KTAL News week nights at 5, 6 and 10. She came to the Ark-La-Tex from the Carolina Coast in early 2006. She was previously the Morning Anchor at WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina. While there she launched a noon newscast and was promoted to Executive Producer of the station’s morning show. Heidi has also worked in West Virginia where she was the Main Anchor and Executive Producer at WDTV in Clarksburg, and the Morning Anchor at WTRF in Wheeling. She began her broadcasting career as a Reporter/Producer for Cox Communications in Cleveland, Ohio. Before that she worked behind the scenes as a production assistant for ESPN and NBC Sports.
Heidi has covered numerous stories that made national headlines, including several hurricanes, the homecoming of P.O.W. Jessica Lynch, the Quecreek mining accident, the crash of United Flight 93, and the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks. While on assignment in New York City, she covered the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Her reports became part of an award winning documentary, which she also anchored and produced. The West Virginia Associated Press named Heidi "Best Enterprise Reporter" in 2000, and has recognized her contribution to team efforts with awards for “Best Documentary”, “Best Community Service Program”, and “Best Continuing Coverage”. She was also part of the news team awarded "Best Weather Coverage" from the North Carolina Associated Press for coverage of Hurricane Isabel.
Heidi is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, but grew up in Ohio. She studied Journalism at The Ohio State University, and Radio/TV Broadcasting at The Ohio Center for Broadcasting. Heidi is a huge Buckeye football fan! She is a proud member of The Ohio State Alumni Association and an inductee into the university’s prestigious Bucket & Dipper Honorary.
Heidi considers her family her greatest and most important accomplishment. She says her most important job is being a wife to her husband, Ben and a mother to her daughter, Lily. Heidi and her family live in Shreveport.
