HOT LATIN DANCE COMES TO PEROT THEATRE STAGE “The Latin-American experience at last has a voice in the feisty, elegant dancing of Ballet Hispanico.” New York Times "Quite simply stellar; gorgeous to look at, thrilling to watch."Chicago Sun TimesThe sensual, sophisticated and expressive BALLET HISPANICO takes the Historic Perot Theatre stage on Thursday, October 29 at 7:30pm, presented by TRAHC, the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council and sponsored in part by the Texarkana Community Ballet. Additional funding comes from Mid-America Arts Alliance with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Arkansas Arts Council. For ticket holders, a free Latin Social Dance is scheduled for the Regional Arts Center at 6:00pm, with lessons! Get a jump on learning October 15 at the Regional Arts Center, 4th and Texas Blvd. TRAHC's free, informal Occasional Thursday starts with refreshments at 6:30pm. Then,TALO, the TexArk Latino Organization takes the floor with "SALSA, SAMBA & CHA-CHA-CHA" showcasing and teaching some of the most well-known "moves." Additionally, Ballet Folklorico Alma Latino de Texarkana will showcase their style dressed in traditional costumes with authentic music. A fun evening for all ages! OCTOBER 29th: NO tights or tutu's on this night! The company's construction of ballet is more like a giant dance party than Swan Lake! It integrates elements of salsa, rumba, flamenco, jazz, and a whole array of other Latino dance styles with contemporary and classical ballet forms. The result is an combination of sizzling hot hip-shaking, grace, and all the theatricality of the tango. They have definitely captured the heart and soul of the Latin culture by weaving ballet and intoxicating Hispanic dance techniques into fiery contemporary works. In fact, their repertoire features a strikingly original “vocabulary” that combines the attitudes and energies of street dance, the shapes of modern dance, and the linear clarity of classical ballet. This exceptionally talented crew of professional dancers from New York couldn’t be better suited to pull it off. Since its inception, BALLET HISPANICO has roused audiences worldwide with its magnetic energy and vivacious choreography. Under the watchful eye of Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, its 13 members perform works by the foremost Latino choreographers of our time as well as those of emerging artists. Their style creates a new sphere of concert dance propelled by passion. Over 77 pieces have been commissioned for the Company, conveying a spirit of pride and affinity to audiences in the millions. When Tina Ramirez founded BALLET HISPANICO nearly 40 years ago, she intended simply to give inner city Hispanics a “voice in dance.” The company has since flourished to more than a voice – it’s an exclamation that’s been heard loud and clear around the world. This troupe has performed for over 2 million people, throughout 11 countries, on 3 continents. Their Texarkana performance marks one of only two performances in the South on this tour. Tickets for BALLET HISPANICO are $45, $41, $36, $32*, and $8 with group and half-price* student discounts.
